Labour’s Yvette Cooper: PinkNews Debate will be an important chance to discuss issues
Yvette Cooper has spoken ahead of her appearance on the panel at next week’s PinkNews Debate.
The Shadow Home Secretary will represent the Labour Party at the debate, which will take place on 19 March at 6pm at a central London venue, and will be hosted by Newsnight anchor Evan Davis.
Speaking ahead of the event, Yvette Cooper said: “The PinkNews Debate is an important chance for us to discuss the changes that can be made to improve the lives of the LGBT community – both in Britain and abroad.
“In the last decade, there have been major strides towards equality, but we still know there is further to go to tackle homophobic hate crime, bullying in schools and to promote equal rights for LGBT people across the world.
“These are significant issues that will matter to a lot of people in the lead up to the election in May.”
Questions will be asked to the panel by audience members, as well as by viewers on Google Hangouts and via YouTube clips, as the event will be broadcast in collaboration with YouTube. To apply to attend, click here.
Speaking ahead of the event, Evan Davis said: “This is obviously the most interesting, unpredictable and open election in my lifetime and contrary to the naysayers who think the whole nation is turned off by politics, I suspect people will really engage with the campaign this time.
“So I’m pleased to be chairing this debate and I’m delighted the parties are treating it as an important event in the run up to the election”.
