Julian Clary has added his support to a petition calling for him to replace Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear.

Just three days after Jeremy Clarkson’s suspension from Top Gear due to a ‘fracas’ with a BBC producer, during which he allegedly threw a punch, a petition has been launched to support Julian Clary as his replacement.

Having racked up nearly 2,000 signatures since launching 2 days ago, the petition reads: “Jeremy Clarkson has repeatedly brought the BBC into disrepute with his racist, sexist and homophobic attitudes and has no place in public broadcasting.”

“Julian Clary is a well established BBC TV presenter with a long standing interest in top gear; he will bring top gear to a wider population in a witty and intelligent manner.”

Retweeting the petition, Clary added: “I thought Top Gear was a clothing range for dominant homosexuals”. Speaking to BuzzFeed he unveiled his credentials to host the show:

“I know nothing about cars, although I did once spend 20 minutes in the back seat of a Honda Jazz. Happy days.”

Clary may have a long way to go to gain the support he needs, however, as another petition to bring back Clarkson to the show currently has over 800,000 signatures.
