Tinder has announced plans for a new premium service – which will charge a higher subscription to people who are over the age of 28.

The dating app, which is popular with both gay and straight users, plans to introduce a ‘Tinder Plus’ service that will offer people the chance to ‘rewind’ swipes made in error, and to search for users in other locations.

According to the Evening Standard, Tinder Plus will cost £3.99 for users under the age of 28 – and £14.99 if they are older.

The company’s founder Sean Rad – who is 27 – told the newspaper: “These features aren’t something that everyone is going to want to use, and we sort of don’t want everyone to use them.”

He added: “We have this global engaged audience that none of the other apps have, which is one of the largest communities for social discovery in the world.

“Nowadays people travel constantly, and there’s this problem that users tell us about, which is that by the time they actually get a match and get to see the person, their trip is over, and they want to swipe before they get there.

“Tinder Plus allows you to do that, and anywhere in the world you may choose to visit, chances are there are Tinder users there waiting for you.”

Mr Rad has previously voiced appreciation for the huge numbers of gay people who use the app, saying: “The product works for the gay community, but we need to do a better job of sort of calling it out.”

He also accepted that the app needed to find a way of including transgender and non-binary people outside of its ‘male/female’ approach, agreeing: “I think we could do a better job of making that clear in the UI.”
