Joan Rivers misses out on ‘In Memoriam’ Oscars tribute
The Oscars have been criticised by some for failing to include Joan Rivers in its customary ‘In Memoriam’ tributes.
The 87th Academy Awards took place last night, and its memorial montage has been criticised by many for failing to include controversial comedian Rivers, who died last September.
The outspoken comic passed away in September, aged 81, after she stopped breathing during a surgical procedure.
Many took to Twitter to express disbelief that the famed comedian was not included in the montage, some joking that she would have hated what everyone was wearing on the red carpet, in a nod to her time as the presenter of Fashion Police on E!

A spokesman for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences told Buzzfeed: “Joan Rivers is among the many worthy artists and filmmakers we were unfortunately unable to feature in the ‘In Memoriam’ segment of this year’s Oscar show… She is, however, included in our “In Memoriam” gallery on Oscar.com.”
After her death, the President sent a personal condolence note to Melissa Rivers despite the joke – saying in in part: “Not only did she make us laugh, she made us think.”
