Vladimir Putin’s official DJ loves his gay fans
Putin’s DJ of choice, DJ Fenix, says he’s a “musician not a politician” and loves his gay fans.
Putin is known for being staunchly anti-gay rights but his ‘official’ DJ, DJ Fenix, has very different beliefs.
DJ Fenix DJed at Putin’s second inauguration and was also the first person ever to DJ at the Kremlin, according to The Guardian.
Fenix, real name Alex Mamonov, said that he loved his gay fans and wanted his music to be “for everybody”. He said he realised that the anti-gay laws in Russia are a “big problem” for gay people.
He told The Huffington Post: “I’m musician and not politician. I love my fans … gay, lesbians or normal guys, like man and woman together.”
Fenix said he was “very excited” about being called Putin’s ‘official DJ’, saying it is very fun.
Other art forms will not be so inclusive of gay people in Russia. Recently, it was announced that Russia was going to crack down on LGBT cinema.
Russian transgender people were recently banned from driving. The government claimed that people with “sex disorders” are more likely to crash so should not be able to obtain licenses.
Despite this, DJ Fenix said he was not homophobic. He said: “It’s all about love at the end of the day, you know, and you can choose what you want.”
