Banana actress Bethany Black has responded to Germaine Greer’s comments about trans women.

The feminist speaker recently caused controversy during a talk to Cambridge University Students’ Union, when she suggested that trans women do not know what it is like “to have a big, hairy, smelly vagina”.

She added: “I didn’t know there was such a thing [as transphobia]. Arachnophobia, yes. Transphobia, no.”

Bethany Black, who starred in this week’s episode of LGBT drama Banana, told the Independent: “Well, I do [have a smelly vagina].

“I came out about 15 years ago and I’ve seen how attitudes have changed over the years and those attitudes feel more and more like a relic of a bygone time.
