Stephen Fry’s new husband has spoken for the first time about their relationship.

Comedian Elliott Spencer, who married the broadcaster and actor last month, said: “Humour is the key to everything. We laugh all the time.”

The Mirror reports Spencer made the comments at Sunday night’s Baftas, which Fry hosted.

After saying Fry was the “love of his life” he added: “Humour is the binding thing in our life. I think that’s what brought us together.

“It’s been incredible. We met at a house party three years ago after we were introduced by friends. The rest is history.”

Spencer said that he ignores people who disapprove of the age gap between him and Fry.

“I don’t care what people think, Stephen is the love of my life, the light of my life,” he said.

The writer and comedian explained that he is having a break from stand-up to concentrate on his photography.

He added: “I’m just really happy and enjoying being married. It’s all been really exciting and new. I’m not really doing anything else.

“I’m focusing on photography now rather than comedy, and being creative. I’m hoping to hold an exhibition so Stephen and all our friends can see my work.”
