Out singer Sam Smith has scooped five nominations for Brit awards – more than any other artist.

The ‘Leave Your Lover’ singer came out last year, when he revealed that his album, when he revealed that his album In the Lonely Hour was about a man he fell in love with.

Earlier this month, the singer uploaded his first photos with his new boyfriend Jonathan Zeizel, taken during a trip to Sydney over New Year.

The singer is up for five Brit awards – British male solo artist, British breakthrough act, British single, British album of the year, and British artist video of the year for ‘Stay With Me’.

Sam Smith tweeted his excitement at his nominations, adding that it would “mean the world” to him to win.

The singer is also up for six Grammy awards next month.

Referencing his new boyfriend, last week the singer reposted a joke on Instagram that read: “The only reason I want a boyfriend is so that when I’m singing Fergalicious and its at the part where she says ‘I be up in the gym just working on my fitness he’s my witness’ I can point to him and he’ll do the little ‘wooOOH’ part because right now I have to do both parts myself and it’s stressful because right after the wooOOH part I have to get right back into rapping and the transition is harder than you think so yeah I need a bf because of that.”

He added: “AMEN!”

Ziezel and Smith met on the set of the singer’s music video for ‘Like I Can’.

Smith said last month: “It’s very early days. I’m talking very, very, very early days. But he’s really sweet.”
