Andrew Scott joins Ben Whishaw in cast of new James Bond film ‘SPECTRE’

Joseph McCormick December 4, 2014

Openly gay actor Andrew Scott has joined the cast of the 24th James Bond film ‘SPECTRE’, it was announced today.

Scott, who came out as gay in November 2013, recently starred in the film ‘Pride’, the British film, which is based on the true story of how a group of gay activists decided to raise money to support the families of striking miners in 1984. The film won the Queer Palm award at Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.

He plays the character Denbigh in the 24th Bond film. Denbigh works at MI6, and joins openly gay Ben Whishaw, who plays Q.

The Sherlock actor came out publicly for the first time last November to say that “as a gay person” he condemned Russian president Vladimir Putin for introducing anti-gay legislation to the country.

On the topic of keeping a low profile on being gay, he said: “Mercifully, these days people don’t see being gay as a character flaw.”

Léa Seydoux starred in the controversial but critically acclaimed ‘Blue is the Warmest Colour’. It was announced in May 2013 that the film had won the Palme d’Or, beating the Coen Brothers’ Inside Llewelyn Davis, which won the Grand Prix, the runner up prize.

However, not all were entirely satisfied with the director’s portrayal of lesbian sexual encounters, including the author of the graphic novel on which the film was based, who called them “ridiculous”, and compared them to porn.

The new 007 film is due for a November 2015 release, and also stars  Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, Rory Kinnear are Christoph Waltz, Monica Bellucci and David Bautista.
