Former Mr Gay UK suspended as police officer after ‘headbutting men’ in toilets
A former winner of Mr Gay UK has been suspended from his job as a police officer, after he was convicted of head-butting men in a gay club’s toilets.
PC Mark Carter, of West Yorkshire, who was named Mr Gay UK in 2006, was convicted today in Manchester Magistrates Court of assault by beating, over an alleged incident in the toilets of a popular gay club.
Detective Chief Superintendent Clive Wain of West Yorkshire Police told the Huddersfield Examiner: “West Yorkshire Police expects the very highest standards of its officers and staff, both on and off duty.
“Criminal behaviour or conduct which falls below this standard will not be tolerated.
“We note the verdict of the court in relation to this officer. PC Carter remains suspended from duty ahead of an internal misconduct hearing.”
The newspaper reports that Carter plans to appeal the conviction.
He had initially also been charged with possession of the anabolic steroid Stanozolol – but the CPS declined to press further charges as he had the drugs for “a medicinal purpose”.
The current Mr Gay UK, Stuart Hatton, was recently named Mr Gay World.
