US: Utah Supreme Court paves the way for gay couples to adopt
The Supreme Court in the US state of Utah has lifted an order which had been blocking gay and lesbian married couples from adopting their partners’ children.
State officials announced that the stay, issued in May, had been lifted.
The decision comes on the back of a non-decision by the US Supreme Court on several appeals, which allowed same-sex marriages to continue in the state of Utah, and others.
Later, Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes issued an order that all legal same-sex marriages should be recognised.
Reyes also petitioned the court to remove the adoptions stay, and a decision came in on Thursday to lift it.
