Former Prime Minister Tony Blair has paid tribute to late humanitarian activist Paul Cottingham, who died last night.

Labour leader Ed Miliband also paid his respects this morning to Mr Cottingham, who died after a battle with cancer last night.

Mr Blair told PinkNews and GT magazine: “This is very sad news. Paul was a dear friend, a lovely warm hearted and generous spirited person who I shall miss greatly. He and Michael were a wonderful couple, enormous fun to be with and so kind to me and Cherie. My deepest condolences to Michael and to all Paul’s family.”

Mr Cottingham, who previously worked as an actor, also worked with organisations such as the Kaleidoscope Trust on his humanitarian work, and was in a civil partnership with former Labour MEP Michael Cashman.

The pair also worked together while Mr Cashman was an MEP, Mr Cottingham as his researcher.

Tributes were paid by many on Twitter.

Mr Cottingham and Mr Cashman entered a civil partnership in 2006.
