Paul Gambaccini will not face charges over alleged sexual offences
Paul Gambaccini, the gay radio and television presenter who faced allegations of historic sexual offences, will face no charges, prosecutors have said.
A spokesman for Gambaccini last year said: “Mr Gambaccini was interviewed by Operation Yewtree officers about historic allegations. He answered their questions and was co-operative. He denied all allegations.”
Today prosecutors confirmed that he would face no charges.
He faced allegations of sexual offences, said to have taken place in the early 1980s over a two-year period.
Tory MP for Ribble Valley Nigel Evans wrote on his public Facebook page saying: “Thrilled for Paul Gambaccini- no further action. Government must act on no publicity till charge after his more than a year of torment, torture and loss of earnings and damaged reputation. He should never have suffered this and when it is avoidable it should be avoided.”
Gambaccini had taken time out from his Radio 2 show following his arrest, but a BBC spokeswoman told the Guardian: “We will be meeting Paul to discuss next steps shortly and will make any announcements in due course.”
