God TV founder resigns over ‘moral failure’
The founder of Christian broadcasting network God TV has stepped down – over an undisclosed ‘moral failure’ in his private life.
Rory Alec founded the global TV network as Christian Channel Europe in 1995 alongside his wife Wendy Alec, before overseeing its expansion across the globe.
However, he this week stepped down as the CEO of the company – which has previously come under fire in the US for its decision to air an ‘ex-gay’ event from anti-gay group Focus on the Family.
He said: “After 20 years of service, I have had a moral failure this year.
“For this reason, I am stepping down. Please forgive me for the disappointment I’ve caused, but I know your eyes are on Jesus who is the author and finisher of your faith and not on me, an imperfect man.
“It is with a heavy heart that I confirm my season with GOD TV is over for now.”
Mr Alec’s wife Wendy Alec, who has overseen their TV output for the past 19 years will remain with the company, despite his departure.
Wendy Alec added the nature of the ‘moral failure’ will be disclosed on the channel later this week, saying: “I will take responsibility on the first night of Revival Alert to share with transparency and authenticity regarding the situation to all our viewers and partners.”
