A vicar in Lancashire has condemned leaflets distributed during Preston pride which compare homosexuality to paedophilia, calling them “threatening and frightening.”

Earlier this week, Lancashire police reported that “no criminal offence” had been committed by a man distributing anti-gay leaflets dressed in a monks’ robe.

However, the Vicar of Preston, Father Timothy Lipscomb, has called the leaflet “very extreme
indeed.”

“It goes into details we don’t really want to talk about,” he said. “It also takes things out of context from both the Old and New Testaments.

“Anyone receiving this would find it quite threatening and frightening.”

The leaflets, which have also surfaced in Cambridge in April, in Brighton last month, in Stoke-on-Trent earlier this month, and in Lincoln this week, describe “homosexualism” as a “cult.”

One of the leaflets previously obtained reads in part: “It [is] abundantly evident that a penis is made for a vagina, and not for an anus. An anus is in fact designed solely for defecation.

“If the practice of homosexuality is acceptable, then in time any form of sexual deviation, perversion and experimentation will be acceptable, including the progressive lowering of the age of consent, taking it below the age of puberty, and thus legalizing paedophilia.”

Police in Leicester gave a similar response last week, saying “no criminal offence had been committed and the case was therefore closed.”

Additionally, while a man distributing the leaflets was spoken to by police earlier this month in Stoke-on-Trent, the Crown Prosecution Service decided not to take action.
