A radio host who called homosexuality a “crime against nature” has complained that he has been labelled anti-gay.

US Seventh Day Adventist pastor Mat Staver, who hosts Liberty Counsel’s ‘Faith and Freedom’ radio show, labelled homosexuality a “crime against nature” just last month.

He has also claimed equal marriage would be “the beginning of the end of America”, likened same-sex marriage to ISIS beheadings, and warned that Republicans who stay silent on gay rights will face “consequences”.

Speaking at the Family Research Council’s Values Voter Summit, he said: “I believe in marriage as the union of man and one woman, and for that – for me believing in something that obvious, I am considered by some groups to be a hater.

“I hate no-one, but I believe in God’s truth and I will not be silent in the face of intimidation.

“We cannot stoop to the levels of those that call us haters or extremists – we need to love them like Jesus Christ, but like Jesus we need to turn over the tables of the money changers when it’s necessary.”

The Family Research Council was condemned by the Jewish Anti-Defamation League in June after President Tony Perkins compared gay rights to the Holocaust – though he repeated his claim in August.

Mr Perkins also believes that religious freedom only applies to Christians who oppose same-sex marriage, compares gay people to drug addicts, and threatens a “revolution” over equal marriage.
