Watch: Sarah Palin gets White House address wrong in speech to anti-gay conference

Nick Duffy September 27, 2014

Republican Sarah Palin managed to get the address of the White House wrong in her speech to an anti-gay group.

The former Governor of Alaska and failed Vice Presidential candidate might have once had her sights set on the White House – but she ended up a couple blocks away.

Attacking the Obama administration in a speech the Family Research Council’s Values Voters Summit, Palin claimed “truth is an endangered species at 1400 Pennsylvania Avenue”.

She was presumably referring to the White House – famously located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue – while 1400 Pennsylvania Avenue is a plaza several roads away, occupied by the cafe of the 5-star Willard Hotel.

The Willard Hotel did not confirm whether truth was an endangered species at their venue.

The Family Research Council was condemned by the Jewish Anti-Defamation League in June, after President Tony Perkins likened gay rights laws to the Holocaust – though he repeated his claim in August.

Mr Perkins also believes that religious freedom only applies to Christians who oppose same-sex marriage, compares gay people to drug addicts, and threatened a “revolution” over equal marriage,

Anti-gay activist Mat Staver – who recently compared same-sex marriage to beheading carried out by ISIS – also lead a panel at the event, titled ‘The Assault On Constitutional Rights In A Nanny State’.

A large number of other Republican politicians also attended the event, including Senator Rand Paul Representative Michele Bachmann, Rick Santorum and Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal.

Palin last year admitted to defending a homophobic rant made by anti-gay Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson without actually reading his comments.
