US: Indiana recognises second out-of-state same-sex marriage

The US state of Indiana has agreed to recognise a second out-of-state same-sex marriage.

This week saw a US District Judge approve documents meaning the state will agree to recognise the marriage between Veronica Romero and Mayra Yvette Rivera.

The couple married last March in Illinois after spending more than 27 years together, but Rivera learned in 2011 that she had ovarian cancer.

Similarly, earlier this year, Amy Sandler and Niki Quasney had their marriage recognised earlier this year as Quasney also has ovarian cancer and is terminally ill.

Same-sex couples in Indiana could marry for a three-day period before an appeals court stayed an earlier ruling by a federal court.

Quasney and Sandler were at the time the one exception to that stay.
