US: Federal appeals court to hear three states’ gay marriage cases

A federal appeals court will today hear arguments on the same-sex marriage bans in three US states – Idaho, Hawaii and Nevada.

A three-judge panel of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in California will today hear arguments in the cases challenging same-sex marriage bans in the three states.

The judges are all Democrat-appointed, and one of whom wrote the opinion which overturned the US state of California’s ban on same-sex marriage – Proposition 8.

Same-sex marriage is currently legal in 19 states and the District of Columbia.
