US: Attorney who fought ‘don’t ask don’t tell’ dies in road accident
One of the attorneys who was part of a team which successfully challenged the US Military ban on gay and lesbian people serving, ‘don’t ask don’t tell’, has died in a road traffic accident.
Sher Kung, 31, was killed when riding her bike in down town Seattle. She was involved in a collision with a truck.
Kung was part of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) team which challenged don’t ask don’t tellon behalf of Air Force Major Margaret Witt, a flight nurse who was sacked for being gay.
Doug Honig, of the ACLU Washington, said of Kung: “She was fun to work with and very committed to equal rights for everybody.”
The truck driver was not impaired, said police, and was cooperating with the investigation.
