US: Florida Supreme Court asked to rule on same-sex marriage
The state Supreme Court in Florida is being asked to rule on the constitutionality of the state’s same-sex marriage ban.
The 2nd District Court of Appeals on Wednesday asked the Florida Supreme Court to rule because the matter was “of great public importance and will have a great effect on the proper administration of justice throughout the state.”
A panel of appeals court judges rejected a request to forward the case to the state Supreme Court earlier this summer.
That ruling was overturned in a 10-3 decision by the entire appeals court today.
A federal judge ruled the state’s same-sex marriage ban is unconstitutional last week.
Four Florida counties — Monroe County, Miami-Dade County, Broward County and Palm Beach County — ruled the state’s ban unconstitutional in recent weeks.
