Actor Matt Bomer is set to appear in hit series American Horror Story, it has been revealed.

The White Collar star, who has three sons with his partner Simon Halls, was personally recruited by Ryan Murphy, the horror anthology show’s executive producer.

Murphy told Entertainment Weekly: “I try to get him to do everything for me. I sent him a text that said, ‘first right of refusal, here’s the role’.

Of the role, he said: “It’s very… warped.”

The actor will guest star in one episode of the show’s upcoming fourth season – subtitled Freak Show – with his schedule to be worked around filming for the upcoming Magic Mike sequel, Magic Mike XXL.

Bomer – who was nominated for an Emmy for his role in acclaimed AIDS drama The Normal Heart – has previously had a guest role on Murphy’s other show, Glee.

In April, Bomer revealed that he and Halls have been secretly married for three years, after a private ceremony in 2011.

After Bomer came out in 2012, American Psycho author Brett Easton Ellis ridiculed rumours that he could take the lead in a film version of Fifty Shades of Grey, declaring that the part “demands an actor that is genuinely into women”.
