US: Indiana appeals order to recognise out-of-state same-sex marriages

The US state of Indiana is appealing yesterday’s ruling that the state must recognise out-of-state same-sex marriages.

The state filed the appeal Wednesday with the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, according to an attorney general spokesman.

A judge ruled Tuesday that Indiana must recognise out-of-state same-sex marriages. The order was put on hold until a federal appeals court rules on marriage.

The 7th circuit court is scheduled to hear arguments next week the state’s same-sex marriage ban.

Legal briefs filed in preparation for that hearing have been majority anti-gay.

A judge struck down the state’s marriage ban in late June.
