US: Missouri gay marriage ban challenge to return to court
A challenge to the US state of Missouri’s same-sex marriage ban will today return to court.
Four same-sex couples were allowed to marry in St Louis, Missouri in June despite the state banning same-sex marriage. Officials later agreed to stop issuing marriage licences pending the results of lawsuits challenging the ban.
An amendment to the Missouri Constitution in 2004 banned same-sex marriage.
On Monday, St Louis Circuit Judge Rex Burlison was listed for a status hearing on the case.
The switch came after Attorney General Chris Koster intervened in the case.
