US: Washington D.C. trans woman robbed at gunpoint

Katie Dupere August 6, 2014

A transgender woman was robbed at gunpoint in Washington D.C. last Saturday in a possible hate crime.

The victim was reportedly on her way to pay her bills when the attack occurred.

She told NBC Washington that the robber put a gun to her head and used a transphobic slur, stating he was going to kill her.

The robber got away with the victim’s rent money.

The victim said she may lose her apartment because she is unable to replace the money stolen.

Washington D.C. police report the incident is being investigated as a hate crime.

Last week, a 15-year-old transgender girl was stabbed by a man on board a Washington D.C. train.

A Baltimore trans woman was found murdered in a Maryland ally in mid-July.

Another Baltimore trans woman was found murdered in a field in early June.
