Arizona gubernatorial candidate Andrew Thomas has released an anti-gay political advertisement for his campaign, calling for a defense of “faith, family and freedom.”

In the video, Thomas says he has “stood up to the gay lobby” by being the only candidate for governor who supported Senate Bill 1062.

SB 1062 would have prevented the state from taking action against individuals and businesses who refuse services to people or groups based on their religious beliefs if such enforcement would “substantially burden” the free exercise of their religion.

The bill was passed by all of the state’s legislator, but was vetoed by Republican Governor Jan Brewer in February.

He calls the bill a legislation that would have “protected all religious freedom and all Arizonans from frivolous gay rights lawsuits.”

Thomas is one of six GOP hopefuls in the race for the governor’s office.

Polls show Thomas near the end of the pack.
