Listen: 16-year-old hits back over Westboro Baptist Church’s Panic! at the Disco parody
A 16-year-old Panic! at the Disco fan has hit back at the Westboro Baptist Church for recoding a homophobic cover of one of the band’s songs, by creating her own parody.
The cover version, titled, You Love Sin What A Tragedy, contained the lyrics:
“Oh! You all say
It’s okay to be gay
Because practically fag marriage will stay
Well this calls for some truth
You’re all insane, fags are profane.”
However, 16-year-old Rebecca Anderson of Edinburgh was so upset with the group’s “extremely homophobic offensive parody of a great song” that she was moved to create her own version.
Her new parody, titled Your Beliefs Are A Lie What A Tragedy, calls the group out for their offensive beliefs, joking:
“Oh, well in fact, well I’ll look at it this way
I mean, half your church is probably gay
Well this calls for a toast so
There is no shame.
However, just 13 picketers from the church showed up to protest the concert, leaving just a $160 donation, which they increased to $1000.
