Rapper Troy Ave is obsessed with asking people to pick between a gay son or a ‘retarded’ son
Rapper Troy Ave has come under fire for a series of tweets repeatedly asking people to pick between having a gay son or a “retarded” son.
The 28-year-old New York rapper, who was previously signed to Def Jam Recordings, has baffled journalists, after it emerged he had tweeted the same offensive question dozens of times in the past in different ways.
In one tweet from 2009 he asked: “Wats More Embarrasing having a 14yr. Old Visibly Gay Son Or a 14yr. Old mentally Retarded son”. (sic)
In 2011 he asked: “Man Drug Addiction is Wack! I don’t know what’s worst a gay son or a crackhead son. What ya’ll think?”
Unrelenting, in 2012 he tweeted: “#IfYouHad2PickOneChild 1.Mildly Retarded Son | 2. A Gay Son | 3. Whore Daughter”.

SPIN, who uncovered the tweets, wrote: “This series inspires its own binary query: Which is more disgusting and unsettling — the question itself, or Troy’s obsession with it?”
Despite his obsession with tweeting the question, the rapper appeared to have made up his own mind in 2010, agreeing he’d take “two retards” over a gay son.
