Hollyoaks actor Kieron Richardson has revealed that he is engaged to his long-term boyfriend.

The 28-year-old actor, who plays Ste Hay on the soap, has revealed that he will marry his boyfriend of 7 years, Carl Hyland, next year.

He told the Mirror: “I just got engaged. It’s really exciting. We’ve been together for over seven years so it’s not a shock.

“Depending on storylines we’re hoping to squeeze it in next year. I don’t want it to be a cold wedding, but then I don’t want to be too hot, so it’ll be spring.”

He added: “I want there to be a few surprises on the day… not even my mum knows some of the things I have in mind.”

Speaking on Gaydio earlier in the week, Richardson revealed he was besieged with homophobic messages after he was mixed up with Kieron Richardson, a footballer who last week signed with Aston Villa.

He said: “It was like ‘You can’t play football you f*ggot’, all the usual phrases, but there was one that said, ‘The person that owns this account needs to die’.

“Since being openly gay, I’ve never, never suffered from homophobic abuse at all. The demographic of Hollyoaks goes literally from little children to nans and granddads. We’ve got a wide spectrum of people watching the show.

“I’ve never received homophobic abuse, but as soon as my name is associated with football, I’ve been opened up to this horrific Twitter feed that I have to see.”
