Sir Elton John’s team has laughed off rumours he was about to retire from performing.

The pop veteran reportedly told fans at the Festival de Carcassone in France on Tuesday: “No more shows, no more music, no more songs.”

The 67-year-old suggested he was going to spend the rest of his time with his family, which is comprised of civil partner David Furnish, and their two children, Zachary, aged 3, and 18-month-old Elijah.

But on Thursday, Sir Elton’s spokesman dismissed talk of the singer’s imminent retirement from the world of pop.

“He’s not retiring”, his spokesman told The Mirror.

“Elton was only joking,” the rep added.

Sir Elton has twice said he wanted to retire – first in 1977 and again in 2010 when he said he was “too old to be a pop star”.
