UK: Pride parade sets off in London despite heavy rain
A defiant Pride parade has set off in London with large crowds of activists, despite initial heavy rain.
About 20,000 people are taking part in the parade, which set off at 1PM today from Baker Street.
The parade will travel along Oxford Street, Piccadilly Circus, Pall Mall and Trafalgar Square before ending at Whitehall.
Pride celebrations in Trafalgar Square are set to be headlined by Eurovision winner Conchita Wurst, who will take to the stage at 5pm.
She will be introduced by esteemed actor Sir Ian McKellen. Sinitta and Sam Bailey are also set to perform.
The theme for Pride this year is “Freedom to be Oneself”.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson is not attending this year’s event for the third year running.
