True Blood star Anna Paquin has tweeted to say that she is “proud” to be a “happily married bisexual mother.”

The, True Blood, star came out in 2010, and has spoken frequently about her bisexuality, but has  said that some people have a problem with the fact that she identifies as bisexual.

She tweeted: “Proud to be a happily married bisexual mother. Marriage is about love not gender.”

In a 2012 interview, Paquin said: “Some people find it odd that you can identify with a sexual orientation that is not straight and yet be married to someone of the opposite sex. They’re like, ‘Obviously it’s not real if you’re married to a dude’”.

“But that’s not my problem, I’m like, okay, if that’s how you feel, there’s nothing I can do about it. I’m just living my life.”

“I am a happily married woman and I married a man,” she said, “I don’t think that negates that aspect of my life, but obviously I wouldn’t be with my husband if I didn’t want to be married to a man.”

“It’s not like I had an ‘Oh my God’ moment, it’s just part of who I am,” she said.

Ms Paquin had known she was bisexual since her teens, but back in 2010, the True Blood actress recorded an ad for the the True Colors Fund, a non-profit organisation founded by Cyndi Lauper to support the LGBT community. In it, she said: “I’m bisexual and I give a damn.”

In 2011, Ms Paquin said that more people needed to speak out about bisexual prejudice. Speaking to W magazine, she said: “Frankly no one had ever asked me about being bisexual before.

“There is a lot of prejudice against us but the more people talk about it, the less of a deal it will be.”
