A man under the influence of alcohol has admitted to using homophobic language at a police constable in Glasgow.

Grant McKnight repeatedly called the PC “gay boy” when officers went to a flat in the city on 7 February in response to a 999 call.

The Greenock Telegraph reports McKnight admitted shouting, swearing and challenging officers to fight and making homophobic remarks.

Depute fiscal Lindy Scaife said: “Officers heard a commotion coming from a flat and inside there were people under the influence of alcohol.

“Two police officers spoke to the householder and the accused approached them and became aggressive.”

The 20-year-old was already carrying out a community payback order for a previous conviction at the time of the incident.

McKnight’s solicitor Gerry Keenan said: “Drink caused him to become involved in something that was none of his business and which has had significant consequences.”

Sentencing was deferred for reports.
