An American comedian has claimed that there is a “gay mafia” attacking people, and said that gays should “shut the f**k up”.

Comedian Adam Carolla has claimed that there is a “gay mafia”, defending a transphobic rant he made about Chaz Bono in 2011.

He told Salon: “My feeling about the gay community — you can’t live in Hollywood and get along in this business and be in theater companies and improv companies and have issues with gay people.

“There’s plenty of gay people and they’re in positions above you. You’re not going to get your movie directed.

“I don’t have a problem with it — they’ve just turned into a mafia and demanding everyone apologize for every joke and retract every statement.

“I was on [a] list, because in 2011 I made a joke about Chaz Bono.

“Jesus Christ, if you can’t joke about Chaz Bono, then we’re all through!

“It’s turned into something that’s bigger than it is. There’s been comedians telling jokes but no overt gay-bashing crimes.

“In terms of sexual proclivities, I don’t know what someone’s into! You could work with someone who’s into kids — how would you know? I don’t know and I don’t care.

“What I say about the gay community is that someone sent me ‘the top 10 reasons gays should marry’.

“One: They’re American. Two: They pay taxes.

“Three through five: So they can shut the fuck up.”

The comedian also defended Tracy Morgan, who in 2011 launched into an anti-gay tirade during a comedy show, saying that if his son came out, “he would pull out a knife and stab that little [slur] to death.”

Earlier this year Morgan said he didn’t know why people kept trying to “surround his career” with accusations after the rant.
