The Auxiliary Bishop of Malta, who warned that same-sex unions were a “grave moral act”, has met with gay Catholics.

Charles Scicluna attended an event for IDAHOT (International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia) on Saturday in Malta

Drachma LGBTI, a Catholic LGBT group, organised the event to coincide with their tenth anniversary.

“Drachma is a group largely inspired by the Christian tradition, values and spirituality but is open to people coming from different religious traditions or none at all.  Drachma also explores ecumenical and inter-faith spaces,” the group said.

Bishop Scicluna along with a number of other priests were joined by dignitaries from Maltese political parties in support of Drachma and their work with LGBT people.

The Bishop previously condemned the idea of civil unions becoming legal in Malta, saying that Catholic MP’s in favour of same-sex civil unions are committing a “grave moral act.”

Earlier this year, Parliament approved civil unions and adoption for Maltese gay couples.
