Miley Cyrus has drawn controversy after stating at a London gig at the weekend that “everyone’s a little bit gay… all it takes is one cocktail”, before making a joke about date rape drugs.

Appearing at London’s G-A-Y at Heaven on Friday in a “secret” gig, the Wrecking Ball star got a straight friend up on stage to wish him Happy Birthday.

Using the opportunity to discuss her feelings about sexuality, she made the comments.

She said: “You know, everyone’s a little bit gay. Some of us just a little bit more than others… You know, it’s the truth. Everyone’s gay. All it takes is one cocktail. And if that doesn’t work, sprinkle something in their drink. That’s what I always do.”

The singer has spoken out in favour of equal marriage on several occasions, and in 2011 she got a ‘gay rights’ tattoo on her wedding finger.

She also praised her former employer, the Disney channel, for introducing same-sex parents for the first time.

An interest in politics runs in the family, as her grandfather was Democrat statesman Ronald Ray Cyrus.
