Stefan Nichols May 8, 2014

It has been announced that America’s first LGBT jazz festival will take place in Philadelphia later this year.

The New York Times reports that Outbeat, a four day event, is being described as the first jazz festival to take on a wholly LGBT focus.

Set to take place from 18-21 September, the festival is being sponsored by the William Way LGBT Community Centre.

The William Way LGBT Community Centre is based in Philadelphia and provide educational and interactive LGBT services.

Outbeat will include panel discussions and receptions as well as performances at several clubs around the city.

The event will include appearances from pianist Fred Hirsch, drummer Bill Stewart and singer Patricia Barber.

More performers are to be announced in July.
