Norway: Plumber stabs workmate ten times after being called ‘grumpy little gay’
A Norway plumber has been acquitted from a charge of attempted murder on the grounds of insanity, after stabbing his workmate ten times for being labelled a ‘grumpy little gay’.
According to Norwegian newspaper VG, Oslo District Court heard that the 42-year old had been working with a younger plumber, both not named in the report, in the summer of 2012.
The younger plumber had claimed that the 42 year old had a secret gay lover, refusing to take an order from him and calling him a ‘grumpy little gay’.
A court heard that in response the 42-year-old began hitting his younger colleague with a piece of plastic piping, then kicking and punching him, before drawing a knife and stabbing him in the back and head.
He stabbed the man ten times in total before colleagues intervened.
The newspaper reports that the 42-year-old believed he was reaching for a ruler, not a knife, but this claim was dismissed.
As the 42-year-old had a history of mental illness, he was acquitted from a criminal charge of attempted murder.
Yesterday the country’s Prime Minister, Erna Solberg, backed same-sex marriages in church, after proposals were voted down by the Church of Norway’s national synod.
She said: “Personally, I believe that gays should be allowed to marry in church. This is the way I, as a church member, want the church to go.”
