Jerry Springer has pledged that he will no longer use or allow the word ‘tranny’ on his show, after being challenged on his repeated use of the slur.

He was responding to outrage over a trans-focussed episode segment which aired in February, titled “Trannies Twerk It Out”.

Speaking to TMZ, he said: “I’ve just been educated. I won’t use that term. I honestly had no idea that you’re not supposed to use that term, so now we’ll find another term to use.

“I didn’t know it was offensive to [trans people] and I’m not interested in offending people, so obviously I’ll just change the term.”

According to The Advocate, previous Jerry Springer Show titles include “Mom Don’t Ruin My Tranny Wedding,” “Tranny Take Downs,” “You Got Me a Tranny Stripper!?” “Online Tranny Trap,” “My Girlfriend is Leaving Me for a Tranny,” and “Tranny Bomb!”.

Precious star Gabourey Sidibe apologised for using the slur last month, after making a joke about ‘tranny on tranny violence’ on the Arsenio Hall Show.
