NYC: Man suffers broken eye socket in Greenwich Village anti-gay attack

Police in New York City have released an image of a suspect they are looking to trace in connection with a violent homophobic assault on a gay couple.

The incident happened shortly after midnight on Saturday 1 March at the West 4th Street Washington Square subway station in Greenwich Village, a famous LGBT district in the city.

The suspect approached the 39-year-old victim and his partner and asked them if they were gay.

When the men ignored the suspect, he made a homophobic slur before punching the victim in the face.

The victim was taken to the hospital with a broken nose and damaged eye socket.
