Video: ‘Russia declares anti-gay violence newest Olympic sport’
A new powerful video produced by the Russia Freedom Fund and Athlete Ally depicts violence against a gay couple as the newest Olympic sport.
In the 2-minute video, titled ‘Russia Declares Discrimination Newest Olympic Sport’, released by the Fair Games Project, the happy and peaceful gay couple are seen embracing, before a gang of uniform-clad athletes viciously beat them in front of a cheering stadium full of onlookers.
The Russia Freedom Fund was launched late in 2013 in collaboration with ILGA-Europe and Russian LGBT activists. It aims to draw attention to issues faced by LGBT people in Russia, where the Sochi Winter Olympics is currently taking place.
Last year Russian President Vladimir Putin signed into law a bill banning the “promotion of non-traditional relationships” to minors, with fines of thousands of pounds and the threat of deportation for tourists found in violation of the law.
