A gay Conservative in Trafford has become one of the youngest people to lead a council in Britain.

Cllr Sean Anstee, 26, was elected leader of Trafford Conservatives Group on Trafford Council last night.

As the largest group on the council he will also become leader of Trafford Council.

Cllr Anstee has been a councillor since he was 20. He also became the youngest executive portfolio holder at the age of 22.

He has been in a civil partnership to his partner Thom, a secondary science teacher at a local school, for four years.

The 26-year-old is also LGBTory’s National Treasurer, the Conservative Party’s LGBT campaign group.

Matthew Sephton stepped down as chairman of LGBTory last month, having been in the post for five years.

His successor is Colm Howard-Lloyd.
