Police are searching for a man who assaulted a young transgender woman last month on Manchester’s Canal Street.

The incident happened in the early hours of Saturday 28 September.

The 23-year-old victim was followed past Via Fossa bar at 4:45am and grabbed around the neck, but the attacker was disturbed by friends who came to her aid.

She had long blonde hair and was wearing a dress and heels.

Police have now released a CCTV image of a suspect and are appealing for anyone who recognises him to come forward.

PC Tina Hodgson, from Greater Manchester Police, said: “We urge anyone who may recognise the man pictured to call us. This attack could have been more serious had help not been at hand.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 0161 856 3071 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
