Facebook to host Europe’s first LGBT hackathon

It’s been announced Facebook is to host Europe’s first LGBT hackathon next month.

The InterTech Diversity Forum, the technology industry’s LGBT support and networking group is to hold its first LGBT themed hackathon at Facebook’s London headquarters on 42 Earlham Street, Covent Garden, London, between the 22-23 of November.

InterTech, which is backed by Microsoft, Google, Dell and Facebook as well as LGBT organistions including PinkNews is hoping that Europe’s first gay hackathon will lead to the development of up to 10 new apps and web products to help improve the lives of LGBT people around the world.

A hackathon is an event in which computer programmers and others involved insoftware development, including graphic designers, interface designers and project managers, collaborate intensively on software projects.

Asher Ismail, the co-chairman of InterTech said: “This hackathon will focus on building things to support LGBT+ causes and communities around the world. Come and be a part of Europe’s first (and the world’s second) LGBT+ focused hack event. We’ll hack through the night into the next day and wrap up with presentations and prizes for the best hacks. ”
