Video: Christian Concern says ‘Pray4Marriage’ ahead of anti-equal marriage rally
A day-of-reckoning-style video has been released by Christian Concern in order to publicise a rally against the same-sex marriage bill – the rally coincides with Monday’s third reading vote of the bill in the House of Lords.
Complete with a thunderous sound track, the video features images of some of the UK’s most vocal critics of the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill for England and Wales, such as Conservative MP David Burrowes.
Urging for the video to be played in churches this weekend, Christian Concern says on its website:
“On Monday (15th July) the House of Lords will vote at the third reading of the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill. This marks the final stage of the bill’s progress in the House of Lords.
“It’s important to remember that the passage of the same-sex ‘marriage’ bill isn’t a formality.
“It’s true that it doesn’t look good; the bill passed with a large majority at second reading in the Lords.
“But we know that God is sovereign and has the power to change things around. We also know that continuing to stand for marriage is the compassionate thing to do. God’s pattern for marriage and family is good for adults, good for children and good for society. When Jesus spoke about marriage, he upheld God’s design of one man and one woman.
“So will you keep standing for marriage? We’d love for you to join us this Monday.
“We’ll be meeting in Old Palace Yard, opposite the Houses of Parliament from 12-2pm and 5-7pm. The atmosphere on previous occasions has been very good. It would be great to see you there.”
On Monday 15 July equal marriage campaigners will be staging a rally in support of the bill’s passage through Parliament, outside the House of Lords from 11am.
The London Gay Men’s Chorus and the London Gay Big Band will provide music and entertainment.
Politicians and community figures – who support equality – are expected to attend.
Out4Marriage are encouragng people to lobby peers to support the reform via the Lobby A Lord website.
