Sunderland: Teen arrested following homophobic attack in chip shop

Northumbria Police say a 15-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with a homophobic attack in Sunderland.

Two women women in their 20s were kicked and punched by members of a 20-strong gang of youths in a chip shop on Burdon Lane shortly after 9pm last Friday.

A number of the youths then assaulted the woman, punching and kicking her and shouting abuse.

The woman fled the shop and called her partner who arrived to try and help her. However the youths then subjected  the second woman to the same physical and verbal abuse.

Both women were left bruised and badly shaken by the attack.
