PinkNews.co.uk has been nominated for the Online Media Awards 2013 in the Best Campaigning/Investigative Journalism category.

Finalists in the category include USA Today, International Business Times UK and The Times newspaper.

PinkNews.co.uk has been singled out for its continuous in depth equal marriage coverage and last year’s exclusive investigation that revealed children as young as 11 at a Catholic state funded school in south London were being urged to sign a petition against marriage equality.

Subsequent articles revealed the extent of these assemblies across England and Wales and inquiries were launched by the Department of Education and the Welsh Government.

Following the coverage by PinkNews.co.uk, the practice was banned in Wales.

Education Secretary Michael Gove also criticised the Catholic Education Service.

PinkNews.co.uk has also been praised for initiating the Out4Marriage campaign, a ground breaking social media project designed to show the widespread support for equal marriage in the UK.

Out4Marriage secured the videos of Sir Richard Branson, Hugh Grant, Stephen Fry, Derren Brown, Paolma Faith, Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, Home Secretary Theresa May, Labour leader Ed Miliband, Culture Secretary and Equalities Minister Maria Miller and the Bishop of Buckingham.

PinkNews.co.uk has also broken several equal marriage exclusives in the lead-up to the introduction in Parliament of the Marriage (Same Sex Couples Bill.

Most notably in July of last year, revealing that David Cameron had told the Out4Marriage campaign that he personally supported same-sex marriages in Churches.

On the day of the historic House of Commons second reading debate and vote, PinkNews.co.uk mounted its largest ever day of coverage with continual updates, transcripts, analysis and a live blog informing our global audience of everything that was said in the House up to and including the vote.

Founder and publisher Benjamin Cohen said: “The past 12 months has been the biggest year for news that PinkNews has experienced in its eight year history. As well as breaking exclusive after exclusive on same-sex marriage, thanks to our partners and volunteers, we were able to continually change the mainstream news agenda with the Out4Marriage campaign.”
