X-Factor finalist Christopher Maloney has come out as gay in an interview for Now magazine.

The singer who came third in the ITV reality contest told the magazine: “”Do you know what, I’m going to admit it – yeah. Honestly, I’ve never denied it or anything like that.”

The singer who was nicknamed the ‘Grandma’s choice’ during the contest said that it would have been “inappropriate” to have been open about his sexuality during the programme.

“It’s just that with the show it was always an inappropriate time or people just asked inappropriate questions.”

He added: “No one asked. I didn’t speak about my love life because I didn’t want my partner to be dragged through this. It wasn’t to gain votes or anything like that.”

The singer also told the magazine :”I’m one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet, but there has to be a bad guy, it was pretty awful and I’m still trying to get myself back on my feet.

“To be honest, the amount of crap I’ve had since the start has been absolutely unbelievable, but I try to take it on the chin.”

Fellow X Factor finalist Jaymi Hensley of the band Union J came out during the series. Fellow finalists Rylan Clark and Lucy Spraggan’s sexuality was public before they made their X Factor debut.

A full interview is in Now Magazine.
