Poll: 91% of gay people in the UK support equal marriage
A new YouGov poll commissioned for Stonewall has found that 91% of gay people support marriage equality.
The poll of over 2,000 lesbian, gay and bisexual adults across Britain also found support rises to 96% for gay people aged 35 and under.
On Thursday, Stonewall Chief Executive Ben Summerskill said: ‘Some regrettably shrill anti-gay campaigners have taken to suggesting gay people aren’t really that bothered about equal marriage. We now know just how important this reform is for millions of people in this country.
“Added to other polls showing overwhelming support for equal marriage from gay and straight people alike, this exposes the hollowness of one of the main claims made by anti-equality campaigners.”
MPs will vote on equal marriage on Tuesday 5 February when the House of Commons considers the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill.
