Lesbian drama ‘Lip Service’ cancelled after two seasons
Harriet Braun, the creator of the BBC Three show Lip Service, announced via Twitter that it would not return for a third season.
The Glasgow-based drama revolved around a group of young lesbians.
Ms Braun said in a tweet that she was “So touched to know Lip Service was enjoyed by so many.” She added that the BBC had not given reasons for its decision to axe the show.
BBC drama controller Ben Stephens said in a report last year, “We were very proud to have such an iconic, critically acclaimed programme in our BBC drama portfolio, which also continues to include both overt and incidental LGB portrayal.”
Actress Ruta Gedmintas, who played the character Frankie in both seasons, tweeted “Let’s hope there are more shows with equal representation in the making.”
The second season saw a significant drop in viewing figures, attracting only a third of its original audience numbers.
